One very nice thing about grocery shopping in Chinatown is that you know what is in season by looking at the prices. For example, you can get napa cabbage or dikon year round nowadays, but when they are 39 cents instead of 59 cents a pound, you know it is a good time to eat these things, maybe make some kimchi. Farmer's markets of course have the same quality, when the cabbages are large, dense and sell for a dollar a head, it is a good time to make some sauerkraut.
