Little piggy

I buy pork from Wayne on saturdays at the st. Lawrence farmer's market . He is a little weird, but he is more legit and much nicer and truthful than all the pseudo farmers in that place.

WTF

some dude on the subway with a fake monkey, wearing clothes and everything (click on the picture to get a better look). the dude even make the monkey wave when he see people staring.

asleep at the wheel ....

As someone who doze off at the desk from time to time, I don't think it is a big deal to take a little quick Z on the job as long as no one gets hurt.

I don't think anyone was injuried in this case, but when your napping on the job becomes a news story, it is a slightly bigger deal,

This is really funny if I wasn't a long time fan of Griffey and the Mariners, maybe end of the road for him, as for the club, there is no end in sight for their current misery.

Slight improvement

This is my second try at making duck prosciutto at home.   It is a bit dry, but the flavor was good.   The biggest problem is that I am going through it way too fast.

Duck eggs

Got these duck eggs from a nice but overpriced organic butcher shop.  They cost about three times as much as regular eggs.  They were larger, fuller in flavor,  and the yoke seem thicker, but not all that special, especially considering the premium.

Fava = Spring

To me, the arrival of spring is confirmed only when i have fresh fava beans on my plate. These are a bit small, but they taste like spring nonetheless.

how about a cocktail

when I was little, I use to go to the market with my grandmother on the weekends sometimes. It is usually early in the morning, not the time I want to get out of bed, but she would buy me rice noodle soup for breakfast, and fresh squeezed sugarcane juice.

They had these contraptions that have two large wheels very close together, then peeled sugarcane were fed through, and the juice collected. Anyone who thinks what you get is just sugar water needs to try it.

My grandma would not think this is a good idea, but, now, add some rum to fresh squeezed sugarcane juice, a squeeze of lime, a few ice cubes ........ that is a fucking killer summer cocktail.

I used canned sugarcane juice here, it is good, but it is not what it can be without the fresh juice.

(given rum is made from sugarcane, it is kind of like adding foie gras on top of duck breast? or bone marrow on a steak? in any case, redundancy is not a bad thing sometimes).
