peas

got some fresh peas at the market on saturday, it really surprised me how much they cost. I mean, you can get frozen shit for really cheap. I know most things cost more fresh than frozen (since fresh stuff will perish, thus the premium), but the difference is big here.

regardless the parity in cost, there are a few things that are just shitty frozen, but absolutely fantastic when fresh. peas for one, here for dinner we got minted peas with a little lemon juice and olive oil, with lamb chops. The peas are so good, the lamb was more like the side.

never the same

one of the cool thing about summer up here (other than the fact that it is not winter) is that I am often home before the sun goes down. Sunset has been happening recently at a little after 9 pm. Between cracking open a beer and making dinner, I often watch that fire ball going down for a couple of minutes, and it is makes living in this dumbass building almost worth it.

good bye micheal

governors gone wild

So, this sanford dude, the MIA governor of south carolina, was actually not on a hike, but was banging some lady in argentina instead. And very recently, we had the blagojevich dude from illinois trying to sell a senate appointment for large sum of money and got canned. Also not long a ago, the new york gov Spitzer quit because he likes expensive call girls. And should we include the Palin baby or was it her daughter's baby rumor/coverup deal in this group?

so pretty much the lesson is that if you are a person who is inclined to lie, cheat, and is a deviant mother fucker, then you are half way to running a state in this great union. Being a action movie star (and taking steroids) probably works also.

chuck and lisa

last sunday, lisa and chuck officially said I do at the drake hotel here in toronto. It was a great ceremony (short) and a great party (lots of nice people, more importantly, open bar).

like a few other weddings I have been to, I was absolutely trashed by the end of it, and why not, this is what weddings are for.

egg on top

no fava at the market today, so I decided to get some asparagus, not my favorite, but it is the season, and they do look pretty good.

like bacon a few years ago, poached or soft fried egg seem to be on every fucking appetizer at ever restaurant, not that there is anything wrong with that, a good egg is good any time of the day, on anything (it is still best at 3 in the morning, with chicken fried steak, but that is another story).

I cooked the spears gently in olive oil with ramp and some chili, top that mess with a poached egg, I really quite enjoyed it, it is missing some herbs, some mint would have been pretty sweet.

support the home team

was just listening to the radio, the governor of michigan was on, urging people to buy american cars, 'support the home team', if you will.

although it may seem sort of stupid to buy inferior product while paying the same price, but I sort of understand the argument, even if it is sort of futile,

think about it, the chicago cubs sucked for a long time (and continue to suck), they get better from time to time but ultimately has been proven to be a constant fucking disappointment for decades and decades. Yet the good people of chicago continued to spend their hard earned dollars for tickets, jerseys, beers and shots (oh you need those when you are a fan of a shitty team, trust me, as a mariners fan, I know) to support their team, home team. Despite the for sale sign, I believe the cubs is a sustainable business, even though they have been delivering inferior products for ages.

but I guess it is different when it is afternoons in the ball park in the summer as compare to something that you have to depend on everyday to get you to work etc.
